After another hard charge and runner-up performance last week, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Millar Engines MasterSbilt by JMR, continued a series of solid runs with two top fives in NLRA competition last week.

Thursday at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, it was the NLRA Can-Am special. Bill started fourth, and finished second in his heat race to Dustin Strand. The pair have arguable been the best two drivers in the area this month.

Bill redrew the fourth starting spot for the main event, and avoided disaster at the start, as Shane Edginton spun in turn two right in front of Bill, as he was the first car to take evasive action to miss Edginton’s No. 4 car.

After seeing a sure top five finish ruined last week, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Millar Engines MasterSbilt, finished another three race stretch with three more top tens, including a runner-up finish, and one of the better charges from the back you will ever see.

Thursday in Winnipeg, Bill started and finished the heat race in fifth, handing him the tenth starting spot in the main event. Bill made it past Kevin Giesbrecht on the first lap, and was subsequently alone on the track working the bottom line, before he caught Dave Smith a few laps later.

A potential pass was negated, however, due to a spin on lap seven by Jeff Pritchard. Bill lined up to Smith’s outside on the ensuing double file restart.

Bill started a heat race without looking at five cars in front of him, as a good draw put the 2 car on the outside of the front row for a change. Bill took the lead from the drop of the green, and despite almost slipping off the edge of the track early, took the heat win, as he put down the best lap of the night, a twelve-and-a-half second lap at just over 139 km/h.

Due to the good runs Bill has had at the Speedway over the last few weeks, he was slated at the back of the invert in the eigh...
