Bill Mooney Racing Recap: Red River Co-Op and River Cities

The weekend got off to a rough start at the Red River Co-op Speedway, as mechanical issues relegated Bill to running just six laps all night. Bill started third and was running fourth when he and Rick Fawcett made contact in turn one causing Bill to spin in front of Steffen Snare. Snare made contact with the right front corner of the No. 2 rocket causing considerable suspension damage, forcing Bill to the pits to make repairs. Bill started at the back of the main event, but early on it was apparent that there were still issues from the accident in the heat race, and Bill had to retire from the event after just three laps.

On Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Bill drew the third spot and finished second in his heat race, giving him the 5th starting spot in the main event. A couple of rain delays earlier in the evening made for a heavy, rough, fast, and tricky racing surface for the main event. Bill passed Tom Corcoran for fourth on the first lap, and help the spot until Joey Pederson passed him, and the rest of the field a few laps later. Bill then fought with Brad Seng for the fifth spot. At the end of the race, Bill passed early leader Shane Edginton, and held off defending NLRA champion Dustin Strand for a fifth place finish in the feature, a nice rebound from the night before.

The NLRA series schedule was to continue on Saturday with the series return to the Greenbush race park in Greenbush, MN, but rain late in the day cancelled the event. Sunday’s NLRA race at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN was also rained out.

Bill has three top fives and five top tens in eight nights of racing this year. Bill is scheduled to run two NLRA races this weekend. First on Friday at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, then the series moves east to the Hibbing Raceway in Hibbing, MN on Saturday.
