This weekend, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lucas Oil Millar powered MasterSbilt by JMR, will be a busy man, as he will aim to race three features in as many days, including trying to earn a berth into the 92 lap, $9,200-to-win John Seitz Memorial at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.

Last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway, Bill finished a strong third in the heat race, and was preparing to roll out fourth in the feature, but the rains came, postponing the event until the opening night of the 12th annual John Seitz Memorial, which kicks off on Thursday night.

Thursday also is the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) season finale at the speedway, where Bill currently sits solidly inside the top ten in the season long standings.

This season at River Cities, Bill has run in nine main events, and has finished in the top ten in all of them, save for the DNF via a roll over on June 29th, three of which ended with finishing spots on the podium.

Last season at the John Seitz Memorial, Bill finished 12th at the NLRA tour finale, which is also named after the late Seitz, the ‘Prelude to the Johnny.’

Bill went on to qualify for the main event outright from his heat race, and was solidly inside the top ten, when he was shoved off the top of the high-banked, quarter-mile oval, on lap 73 of last years Seitz feature. He was credited with a 16th place finish.

Bill has historically had hard luck at the Seitz, much like he has had throughout the 2018 season. Bill has made the feature in six of the eight times he has entered the Seitz. His rookie appearance at the event saw him charge from twelfth to third, coming up one spot short of the show.

From then on, he has been caught up in pile-ups on multiple occasions, while a mechanical failure in 2015 caused him to miss his heat race, but a charge from 17th to sixth in the B Main earned him a good spot for the last chance race. He lead late in the race, but came up just short of making the show.

Stat Attack:

Bill has four podiums, eight top fives, and 16 top tens, in 18 nights of racing this season.

What’s Ahead:

Bill will run three nights at the River Cities Speedway during the 12th annual John Seitz Memorial this weekend.
