Bill Mooney Racing Preview – Return to the Track

Another night of work on the new 2 car.

After a wreck on the backstretch that totaled his race car at River Cities on June 17th, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Curtis Carpets Millar powered MasterSbilt, will return to the track for the first time in 20 days on Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg.

The last time Bill was on the racetrack was 19 nights ago on June 17th during the NLRA show that accompanies the World of Outlaws June stop at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Bill was running seventh that night, before a lapped car spun on the backstretch, collecting Dustin Strand, Donny Schatz, then Bill, bending the front of the frame on the two car, leaving it un-repairable.

An order was put in for a new frame, and it arrived in Winnipeg this past Sunday. Bill and his dedicated team were able to put the new car together in time for this weeks action at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg tomorrow (Thursday) night, and if this go well, travel south to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, three weeks to the day that the old car was lost.

The new frame was bare upon its’ arrival on Sunday at 5:30 pm, as the interior, fuel cell, and a few other bolt-ons were added Sunday evening. On Monday night, the motor, headers, transmission, and radiator were placed in the new frame, with work ending at 10:30 pm that night. Tuesday night saw the body nearly completed by 10:30 pm. All of this work was completed in just four nights, as Bill and his crew still worked their regular jobs during the day.

The timing of the wreck couldn’t have been worse, as the NLRA ran five races in eight days, leaving him tied for 35th in the series standing, the lowest he’s been since he starting running with the series in 2010. He’s still sits eighth at Red River Co-Op, and tenth at River Cities.

Bill has never been a points racer, but missing that stretch of races allows him to focus completely on race wins, and learning what the new car will like and what it won’t like. The time off will likely leave him a little fresher than his competitors physically, as many drivers have run upwards of ten races in the three weeks Bill has been away from the track.

2016 Stat Attack:
Bill has one win, three podiums, five top fives, and six top tens in nine nights of racing this season.

What’s on Tap:
Bill Mooney Racing will return to the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg for just the third time this season, and first time since June 9th. If things go well on Thusrday, Bill will travel to Grand Forks to return to the River Cities Speedway, three weeks after the accident that claimed the old car.
