Another season is in the books for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lucas Oil Millar Engines powered MasterSbilt by JMR, and Bill finished the season in style with a top five, a hard charge, and a pair of top tens.

Friday night at the Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Bill finished fourth in the heat race after starting in the sixth spot. That finish handed Bill the twelfth starting spot in the main event.

Bill went three-wide with Kevin Sexton and Dave Smith in turns one and two on the start, passing both by the end of the opening round. Bill was the only driver utilizing the top of the speedway, as he caught and passed Brad Seng in one and two on lap three.

Bill chased down, and passed Shane Holden at the conclusion of the fourth circuit. Bill then set his sights on Steve Anderson, making another pass on the outside at the line at the end of lap five.

Bill and Anderson remained door-to-door for a couple of laps, as the pair chased down, and caught, Walt Morris and Mike Balcaen, who were in a battle for the fourth spot. Bill chased down Balcaen, but the pair swapped the fifth spot for a pair of circuits, before Bill made the final pass for the spot on lap ten.

Bill wasted no time continuing his charge, passing Morris for fourth on the following lap. After a caution with five laps left, Bill was stuck on the inside of the double file restart, but that didn’t slow the 2 car’s progress, as Bill caught Saskatchewan native Jim Harris for the third spot. Harris beat Bill back to the line as the checkered flag fell. Bill made up eight spots in his charge from twelfth.

On Saturday in Winnipeg, Bill finished heat third in the heat race. That finished gave him the seventh starting spot for the final main event of the 2017 season.

After an early caution with two laps complete, Bill and Balcaen entered into a battle for the sixth spot. Bill, for the second straight night, was the only driver to attack the cushion as his preferred line around the fourth-tenths mile oval.

Bill held the spot for four laps, before Balcaen regained the position on lap eight. Bill was caught by eleventh starting Shane Holden on lap eleven, and slipped back to eighth. Bill remained in that spot for the duration of the last half of the race.

Stat Attack:

Bill finished the 2017 season with three wins, 19 top fives, and 27 top tens, in 38 nights of racing. Bill finished fourth with the NLRA and at River Cities Speedway, while also finishing third at the Red River Co-op Speedway, and in the Wissota state points for Manitoba. Bill is currently eleventh in the Wissota national standings.

Special Thanks:

Keeping the 2 car fast and up front is no small feat, but it is made easier with a hard working, dedicated crew. Jamie Beatty, Glenn Duncan, Brian Bork, and Norm King, make up the 2 crew, and Bill is especially thankful for all their hard work and sacrifices so he can take to the track night in and night out.

Bill is also thankful for his family, his parents Pat and Deb, wife Nadine, daughter Paige, and son Owen, for their constant support and his brother Michael who continues to look out for him from above.
