Bill Mooney Racing Recap – A Good Finish Falls Flat On Its’ Nose

Looking to back up another podium finish last week at River Cities, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Erickson Motors Millar Powered MasterSbilt, was looking good for another one, until it suddenly went away at the half way point in the main event.

Bill started a heat race without looking at five cars in front of him, as a good draw put the 2 car on the outside of the front row for a change. Bill took the lead from the drop of the green, and despite almost slipping off the edge of the track early, took the heat win, as he put down the best lap of the night, a twelve-and-a-half second lap at just over 139 km/h.

Due to the good runs Bill has had at the Speedway over the last few weeks, he was slated at the back of the invert in the eighth starting spot in the main event. After a restart on lap two, Bill passed Shane Edginton and Zach Naastad, then started to jockey for position with Brad Seng. Both drivers passed Steffen Snare on lap four, then proceded to battle back and forth for the fourth spot.

The car was running well on the bottom, for those of you who know Bill, you know that is a place where you don’t often find the 2 car.

In turn one on the beginning of lap eleven, Seng’s car pushed up the corner in front of Bill, leaving him with no other option but to slam on the brakes, but by then it was too late. The nose of the 2 car was severly damaged, as a caution flew, with Bill exiting the race.

This Thursday night, Bill will look to change his luck at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, where, in four nights in the new car, he’s scored runs of fifth, sixth, and seventh, along with one DNF.

After Thursday’s race, a couple tracks where Bill has run well recently are on tap to finish out the weekend.
On Friday he returns to River Cities where, in four nights in the new car, has two heat wins, a feature win, a runner up, with two DNF’s, including the one last Friday where the car was fast.

This Saturday night sees a return to the Devils Lake Speedway with the NLRA. Bill finished second after starting ninth at the Speedway on July 23rd, and is a former winner of this event, winning over former World of Outlaws regular Pat Doar and Brad Seng in August 2013.

2016 Stat Attack:

Bill has two wins, six podiums, nine top fives, and 15 top tens in 21 nights of racing this season.

What’s on Tap:

This week starts on Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, continues on Friday night at the River Cities Speedway, and ends with a return to the Devils Lake Speedway with the NLRA on Saturday night.
