Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Another Hard Charger And Another Podium

It was arguably the best week of the season so far for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Maaco Auto Painting MasterSbilt by JMR, as another hard charger award was won at River Cities, before another podium was collected at Greenbush.

After another fifth place finish from a sixth place start in his heat race last Friday at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Bill was slated to start 14th in the NLRA main event that evening.

Since June 14th, Bill has had a starting spot inside the top ten just once in what is now five tries. When all was said and done, he rallied, once again, to finish inside the top ten.

It did take Bill seven laps to climb into the top ten, as he moved past Dan Dowling, and veterans Tom Corcoran and Mike Balcaen.

Just before the halfway point, Bill moved past Ryan Corbett for ninth, and began a close battle with Ryan Kereluk and Balcaen, once again, for the eighth spot.

Bill, who had ran around the cushion for the majority of the race, was able to hold off Balcaen, while also sliding past Kereluk to move into eighth.

After nearly a handful of laps tracking down Zach Naastad, Bill was able to move up one more spot into seventh before the conclusion of the twenty lapper.

For the second week in a row, Bill left River Cities with a hard charger award.

On Saturday, Bill returned to the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN, nearly one year to the day after his rollover at the speedway.

Things got off to a better start this year, however, as Bill finished second in his heat after starting fifth, while also redrawing the fifth starting spot for the main event.

Bill spent the majority of the run in second place, but a run in with a lapped car with a few circuits remaining, bunched the field up for a late restart.

Bill ended the night with a podium finish, his second straight after a fifth place start at the speedway last August.

Stat Attack:

Bill has two podiums, three top fives, and ten top tens in ten nights of competition thus far this season.
