Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Another Hard Charger And Top Five At River Cities

Bill’s return to the track last week was a successful one, as he guided the No. 2 Erickson Motors MasterSbilt by JMR to another top five after starting in the fifteenth position.

Bill didn’t have the greatest of starts to his evening, as a fifth place starting spot in his heat race, turned into an eighth place finish. This would create a tall task in the main event, as he was relegated to the fifteenth starting spot.

So far this season at River Cities, Bill has had no problem rebounding from early adversity. On May 31st, Bill recovered from a power steering issue to finish eighth after starting twentieth.

Two weeks later, Bill again had problems in the heat race. This time, a stuck throttle relegated him, once again, to the twentieth starting spot in the main event. When all was said and done that night, Bill was inside the top ten again, this time with a ninth place result.

Back to last week, Bill rolled off fifteenth, and from the drop of the green, the small adjustment Bill made between races, paid dividends early. He passed eight cars in the two laps before the second caution to move into seventh.

All those moves were made on the bottom of the high-banked, quarter-mile bullring, but restarting seventh moved Bill to the outside on the ensuing restart.

No matter, however, as the car worked well on the top as well as Bill battled with Minnesota Iron Range hot shoe Jeffrey Massingill for sixth.

In a bit of deja vu, it was Massingill whom Bill stole sixth from on the 92nd and final lap of last September’s John Seitz Memorial at River Cities.

As they battled, they split Ryan Corbett to move into fifth and sixth. The pair were about to do the same to Mike Balcaen when the third and final caution of the race flew.

Running sixth moved Bill to the bottom for the final restart, and after a handful of circuits, Bill moved back to the top and moved past Balcaen with eight laps remaining.

By then, third and fourth had built a lot of breathing room, but Bill kept the fifth spot in the waning laps to score another top five, and another hard charger award, while also stretching his season long top ten streak to eight.

Stat Attack:

Bill has one podium, two top fives, and eight top tens in eight nights of competition thus far this season.
