Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Another Podium at River Cities

Coming off another hard charger award at Greenbush last week, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Appraisal Pro Millar Powered MasterSbilt, scored a strong second place run last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway.

After a rain out on Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Bill traveled south once again to take on the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, where he scored his second win of the year two weeks prior.

Another below average draw relegated the 2 car on to the inside of the third row, but after Shane Edginton was called for jumping the initial start, Bill moved up to the third spot for the restart. Bill raced past Alberta native Brad Kerrison and went on to finish second in the heat to Dustin Strand, placing Bill in the fourth starting spot in the main event

Dry straightaways, tacky corners, a few rough spots, and thick lapped traffic made for an exciting race. Bill rode the high side past Brandon Fuller on initial start, but Fuller spun and brought out the caution a lap later. Steve Anderson had chose the inside on the double file restart, allowing Bill to build momentum on the high side.

The 2 car pushed in turn one on lap four, setting up a three-wide battle between Bill, Anderson, and Strand, a battle Bill would win in turns three and four. Bill would lose second to Strand on lap five, however, as the lead trio began to evenly space out, even as they got into traffic on lap nine

Edginton and Strand got together in lapped traffic at the exit of turn four at the close of the twelfth lap, kicking up dust where the front stretch meets the infield allowing Bill to close. Strand took the lead a couple laps later, with Bill diving to the inside in turn three to pass Edginton for second as they came by the flagstand with three laps to go.

Five lapped cars were running for position in front of the leaders, with one of them pushing across turn three in front of Strand with two to go, allowing Bill to close to within a few feet of the lead.

One more lapper sat in front of the lead duo as the white flag fell. Strand was able to get around with little difficulty, going on to win, with Bill closely on his heals running a close second. It was his second podium finish in four nights in the new car at River Cities.

2016 Stat Attack:

Bill has two wins, six podiums, nine top fives, and 15 top tens in 20 nights of racing this season.

What’s on Tap:

Bill is slated to race at least once this week, as he is scheduled to return to the Buffalo River Race Park just east of Glyndon, MN on Sunday evening, where he lead nine laps over World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion Donny Schatz last June. Bill may also run on Friday night at the River Cities Speedway, and at the Jamestown Speedway on Saturday.
