Last Friday got off to an inauspicious start for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Weed Man MasterSbilt by JMR, as more bad heat race luck stacked the deck against Bill, once again, at the River Cities Speedway with the Northern Late Model Racing Association.

Bill started the night fifth in heat race number two, but the race didn’t last long for Bill, as a crash in turn two sent the two car pit side early.

After placing last in his heat, Bill was slated to start last in the twenty-third and final position in the main event.

With ten laps complete, Bill had made up five spots, as he made his way through thick traffic, running high and low to run in the eighteenth position.

A few cautions marred the middle of the twenty-five lap main event, but on the ensuing restarts, Bill was placed on the outside on the Delaware double-file restarts.

Bill advanced seven positions in three laps following the cautions, to climb solidly inside the top ten, and into the eighth position.

In the final ten trips around the high-banked, quarter-mile Bullring, Bill became involved in a three way battle with Brandon Fuller and Tom Corcoran for the seventh through ninth positions.

Running the cushion, Bill moved past Corcoran, while Fuller took seventh. Bill crossed the line at the end of the race in the eighth position, fifteen spots higher than he started.

The performance netted him his second Performance Auto hard charger award of the season with the NLRA, and his second Shawn Horn Realty River Cities hard charger award.

The comeback also kept Bill’s season long top ten streak alive, as he is yet to fail to finish at or ahead of the tenth position in each of his thirteen races so far in 2019.

Bill was also scheduled to race with the NLRA at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND last Saturday, but the event was rained out.

Stat Attack:

Bill has two podiums, four top fives, and thirteen top tens in thirteen nights of competition so far this season.
