Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Long Night Ends With First Rollover In Twenty Year Career

The night started out with a bad draw, and failed to improve from there on for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Weed Man Millar powered MasterSbilt by JMR, as a stack up at the bottom of turn two caused the 2 car to rollover.

It was Midco T.V. night at the River Cities Speedway last Friday night, and things got off to an inauspicious start at the draw window, once again, as he drew the 94 pill. The draw being out off 100, meant Bill knew right away he’d be starting towards the back of his heat race.

The problem was exacerbated by heavy rain that fell in the Grand Forks area thoughout Thursday and early Friday morning, making for a very fast, but narrow track.

Bill started sixth, and improved one spot, running fifth in his heat. It was an NLRA night, so that meant Bill was slated to roll off 13th in the main event.

As Bill and the rest of the field took to the track, another brief rain shower hit the track. The field paced a few extra laps to run the new moisture in before the initial start.

The field made their way around the quarter-mile bullring for a handful of laps before a caution for Troy Schill.

On the restart, Kevin Robertson hit a rut and drove over the banking. The rest of the field checked up in front of Bill, causing a chain reaction. When all was said on done, the 2 car had made one complete roll, eventually coming to rest on the right side.

The River Cities Fire Crew, one of, if not the best, safety crews in all of dirt track racing, arrived to Bill’s aid immediately. They helped get the door and the roof apart enough so Bill could climb from his wrecked mount.

This was the first time in his twenty-year stock car career that Bill has been up-side-down in a race car. He emerged from the 2 car un-injured, with only a sore neck.

This was also the first time this season Bill has finished outside the top-ten, or finished as a DNF (did not finish) in a main event this season.

Stat Attack:

Bill has two podiums, five top fives, and seven top tens, in eight nights of racing this season.

What’s Ahead:

Bill will not be in action this weekend, as it will take a little time to get the new car put together.
