Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Many Passes Made During Pair Of Devils Lake Comebacks

Sometimes the results don’t always show how good you were, as Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 OMG Candy Millar Engines powered MasterSbilt by JMR, won his heat, after an incredible comeback, and had a top five run from the rear of the field in the feature, go away on a late restart.

After a Friday night rain out at the River Cities Speedway, the season opener for the Northern Late Model Racing Association shifted an hour west to the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND.

Bill drew the fourth starting spot for the heat race, but another competitor hit a rut in turn two right in front of the 2 car. Bill did a terrific job getting on the brakes and avoiding a catastrophe, but he fell all the way to the back of the pack.

However, in typical Bill Mooney never give up fashion, Bill picked off a car a lap, eventually chasing down race long leader Brody Troftgruben, and passing him for the heat race victory with two laps remaining.

Bill’s nearly improbable comeback in the heat race meant he would be in the redraw for one of the top three starting spots in the main event.

Bill got the number two chip in the redraw, and started the feature in the outside of the front row with fellow Manitoba native Shane Edginton.

Bill ran third early in the main event, and was battling hard with Dustin Strand in turn four on the fourth trip around the high-banked third-mile oval, when the pair made contact, sending the two car into a spin.

Luckily, the field did a great job to avoid the stalled No. 2 machine, and Bill was able to rejoin the race at the back of the field.

Bill quickly picked up right where he left off in the heat race, once again, picking off a car per lap, until the 2 car rejoined the top five before the races’ second, and final caution, with four laps remaining.

The restart is not what Bill needed, however, as he fell back to eighth on the restart, and with very little time remaining in the event to re-build momentum, and that’s where he ended the night.

Stat Attack:

Bill has one podium, one top five, and two top tens, in two nights of racing thus far this season.

What’s Ahead:

Bill will head south, once again, to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday night, for their second week of racing action.
