Bill Mooney Racing Recap: Norman County Raceway

The weekend started with a pair of NLRA series races at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Bill started night one on the pole of his heat race, and finished third putting him in a redraw spot for the main event. Bill drew the 12th starting spot, and spent the early part of the feature racing former World of Outlaws late model rookie of the year Pat Doar and five time World of Outlaws sprint car champion Donny Schatz. After getting caught up in a caution around the halfway point, Bill was given his spot back and spent the remainder of the race battling with defending NLRA series champ Dustin Strand and Casey Arneson. Bill finished the feature in the 14th position.

On night two in Ada, Bill started on the pole of his heat race, but was caught up in an accident that involved the previous nights’ winner Jeff Wildung and rookie Dustin Bluhm, who rolled his car off of the third turn. Bluhm was uninjured, but was done for the night. On the restart, Bill’s car showed the effects of the tangle, as he slipped back to a fifth place finish. Bill started the main event in the 18th position, but motor issues sent him pit side after 14 laps of the feature, his fourth DNF of the season.

Bill was set to make his I-94 Speedway debut in Fergus Falls, MN on Friday night, but was rained out late in the afternoon. The rain from previous day along with additional rain on Saturday cancelled the race at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN as well.

Bill has three top fives and six top tens in twelve nights of racing this year. Heading into July Bill sixth in the Red River Co-Op Speedway points standings, just 22 points back of the lead. At the River Cities Speedway, Bill is seventh in points, just 18 points back of the lead. Bill also sits ninth in the season long NLRA series points chase. Bill is scheduled to race at his home tracks once again this week starting Thursday at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg and continuing on Friday at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
