Last week started off on a high note as Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Pioneer Window and Door Millar powered MasterSbilt by JMR, scored a podium finish at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, but bad luck would lie ahead for the rest of the weekend.

Last Thursday night at the Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, a fifth place finish from the sixth starting spot in the heat race mired Bill all the way back to the outside of the fifth row for the feature.

Bill was able to move up a row after Rick Fawcett was unable to make the call for the race. Coming off of turn two on the second lap, Bill went three-wide, splitting between the middle of pole sitter Leo Feeleus, who was running high, and Mike Balcaen, who ran the bottom.

Bill passed them both, then started creeping to the inside of Shane Edginton for fifth. Bill and Edginton made their way past Walt Morris on lap five. The pair spent the next ten circuits chasing down Shane Holden, who lead the first six laps of the race.

Edginton made it by Holden coming off of turn four with five to go, while Bill passed Holden in the next set of corners. Bill held on to the third spot for the remainder of the race, collecting another podium finish at the Winnipeg oval.

On Saturday at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN, Bill spent the afternoon in the blazing sun preparing the car after drawing a poor number at the pit shack. A pass on the final lap in his heat race on Tom Corcoran earned Bill the fourth spot, while also allowing him to start three more spots forward in the main event.

Bill started the feature on the outside of the fifth row in the feature, and six minutes after the green flag flew, Bill ended the race in the eleventh spot. It was the first time in over five weeks the 2 car finished a feature outside the top ten, and the first time all year it happened without being a DNF.

Stat Attack:

Bill has three wins, twelve top fives, and 14 top tens, in 16 night of racing this season.

What’s on Tap:

Thursday night, Bill goes in tied with Mike Balcaen for the point lead at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, then it’s back to River Cities on Friday, before running with the Northern Late Model Racing Association at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND.
