It has been a solid start to the season for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 OMG Candy Millar powered MasterSbilt by JMR, who chalked up his second podium of the season last Friday night at River Cities.

Last Friday at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, a mid pack draw saw the 2 car slated for the fifth starting spot in his heat race. But, just like on opening night, Bill wasted little time making up ground, finishing second to Mike Balcaen in the heat race.

Friday was the Wissota Race of Champions qualifier, so it made the program another draw-redraw event. Bill redrew the fourth starting spot for the main event.

Bill had built up momentum, and was looking like a serious threat to score his second win in just three races. But after the final caution of the race, a slide job that was executed by the third place driver came up short, quelling the momentum Bill had built.

While Bill was able to keep the car in one piece, the incident caused him to have to spend the next number of laps rebuilding momentum to go after the win.

Bill made it into the top three at the halfway point of the twenty lap race, and began gaining ground on the lead duo as they approached lapped traffic. Pederson, however, managed to clear the traffic, leaving Bill in the third spot, scoring another podium finish.

Bill reflected positively on the night and the beginning of the season, “Really good start. The car has been great every night. Night one, everything was perfect. Night two the car was better than the driver! And night three, we just needed a better break on the last caution. But that being said, I think we have had the car to beat in every race, and that’s awesome. If we can keep that up, things will be good.”

Stat Attack:

Early on in 2017, Bill has one win, two top fives, and three top tens, in the first three events of this season.
