Bill Mooney Racing Recap – Two More Top Fives As Season Winds Down

Another solid week is in the books for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lithia Toyota of Grand Forks MasterSbilt by JMR, as a runner-up finish at the Red River Co-op Speedway was complimented by a fourth place run at the Greenbush Race Park with the Northern Late Model Racing Association.

Last Thursday night, Bill won his heat race after starting outside the front row, but the redraw was not in his favor, placing him seventh in the main event.

As the field took the green on Emerson Duty Free night at the speedway, Bill spend the first pair of circuits on the bottom of the big four-tenths mile oval, before abandoning the line for the top of the track at the end of the third round.

Bill had to use the bottom and middle again in the coming laps, as he climbed into the top five before a caution on lap five.

Bill lined up fourth on the restart, and battled Rick Fawcett for the third spot. Using top and bottom to try and track down Fawcett, Bill eventually made the pass on the twelfth circuit, and set his sights on the lead duo of Shane Holden and Kevin Sexton.

Using seven of the remaining eight trips around the speedway, Bill did track down and pass Holden for the runner-up spot on the final round.

Last Saturday night, Bill returned to the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN, for the second and final race of the 2019 season with the Northern Late Model Racing Association.

After another heat win from the outside of the front row, a friendlier NLRA redraw put Bill on the outside of the front row, once again, for the main event.

Bill settled into the third spot at the start of the race before a hard charging Joey Pederson caught him on the tenth lap.

Bill ran the rest of the six-minute, green-to-checkered event in the fourth spot, improving his season long top ten streak to fifteen-for-fifteen.

Stat Attack:

Bill has three podiums, five top fives, and fifteen top tens in fifteen nights of competition so far this season.

What’s Ahead:

Bill returns to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks on Friday night for one final tune-up before next week’s 13th annual John Seitz Memorial.
