After spending the week fixing damage from the first half of the season, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 McPhillips Toyota/OMG Candy Millar Powered MasterSbilt by JMR, began the second half of this season collecting two more top fives, and another hard charger award with the NLRA.

On Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Bill started on the front row of the heat race and finished second to Ricky Weiss, running the second fastest lap of the night in the low 17 second bracket at nearly 80 miles an hour for the average speed. Bill started on the inside of the second row in the main event, and was about to take the lead heading into the first corner when he was chopped off by Kevin Sexton, nearly sending Bill into the tractor tire on the inside of the track, and once Bill regained his momentum, he had fallen back to fourth, where he remained for the duration of the race.

After a rain-out Friday night at the River Cities Speedway, Bill headed west for a race on Saturday night at the Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, North Dakota, during the Northern Late Model Racing Association first of two races at the track this year. Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Bill drew another bad number for the heat race and started fifth. At the beginning of the race another car got loose in front of Bill, and he had to get sideways himself to avoid contact. It was like deja vu as the same thing happened at Devils Lake last season, except Bill was run into after getting sideways, which fortunately didn’t happen this time. He did, however, fall back to the rear of the seven car field, but was able to climb his way back to fourth, one spot short of a redraw spot, giving him the tenth starting spot in the main event. In the main event Bill made steady gains during the course of the race, making passes on Cole Schill, Steffen Snare, Steve Anderson, and veterans Tom Corcoran and Brian Strand to finish fifth, collecting the hard charger award for the third time in just seven races with the NLRA this season.

Bill has two wins, ten top fives, and 14 top tens in 18 nights of racing this season. This week starts on Thursday night where, for the second week in a row, Bill will start the night four points back of Mike Balcaen on top of the point standings at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, before another Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, then a visit on Saturday night to the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN, with the Northern Late Model Racing Association.
