After another top five one night prior, Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Paintball Paradise MasterSbilt by JMR, won his second feature of the season at the River Cities Speedway, this time in front of live cameras on Midco Sports Net.

On Thursday night, Bill won his heat race after a battle with Ricky Weiss which saw the pair trade the lead with two laps remaining. Bill ran the fastest lap at just under 18 seconds, at over 130 KM/H. Bill started fifth in the feature, and had a podium spot before moving high on the track while looking for second, eventually falling back to fifth, scoring another top five.

On Friday, Bill headed south once again to take on the River Cities Speedway. After draw a good number for his heat race, Bill and Weiss once again traded the lead, this time, swapping sliders on what was the first race broadcast live on Midco Sports Net.

Weiss picked up the win, but Bill’s strong runner up finish, coupled with a pair of DNF’s [did not finish] in past weeks, lowered Bill’s point average enough to place him on the outside of the front row for the feature.

Bill spent the first lap going door-to-door with Troy Schill, eventually taking the lead at the flagstand at the end of the first lap. Bill then began to walk away from the field, building a second-and-a-half lead before approaching lapped traffic on lap five. Bill had to abandon the top of the track a couple of times to pass a couple lapped cars, but he wasn’t seriously pressured for the lead until after the first caution flag with eight laps remaining.

Weiss made contact with a spinning lapped car that caused the caution, but was able to continue. But on the ensuing restart, it was Brad Seng who made the strongest bid for the lead, briefly pulling even with Bill in turn two. Bill, however, was able to continue riding the cushion on the top of the track to pull away for the victory, winning by nearly a full second over Dustin Strand.

After being greeted by Jon Roberts for the second time to victory lane at River Cities this season, Bill said, “Yeah, it’s awful nice starting on the front row outside, if I can choose a spot to start every night, that would be the one. I guess a couple weeks of flats and getting hauled off on a wrecker gets you a low point average, and we got to start out front, that’s kind of a silver lining in all that carnage.”

Bill continued on to thank his sponsors and his crew saying, “We’ve had a few tough weeks, and I’ve about wore out my crew. Just had some bad luck, and lots of work. It’s nice to see a couple extra late nights in the shop doing that extra work pay off, and the car was really good.”

Bill was rained out on Saturday at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN.

Stat Attack:

Bill has two wins, seven top fives, and eight top tens, in nine events of this season.
