Last weeks’ racing action saw Bill Mooney driver of the No. 2 McPhillips Toyota/OMG Candy Millar Powered MasterSbuilt by JMR collect two more top five finishes, continuing a strong start to this season.

Mother nature finally let the season start at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, where Bill won his heat by two and a half seconds over Kevin Sexton. In the Feature, Bill started second, fell to third on the start, but passed Paul Veert and spent the next nine laps chasing Sexton for the lead. On a restart on lap ten he remained second after passing Sexton, but was passed by Ricky Weiss who went on to win, Bill spent the last half of the race holding off defending track champion Mike Balcaen for second. His second consecutive runner-up performance in just three races.

On Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, Bill started seventh in his heat race, and narrowly avoided a collision between Brad Seng and John Halvorson at the start. He then used the bottom to climb up to fifth before sliding up the track and falling back. A late restart gave him chance to make his way back up to fourth by races end. Bill started fifth in the main event, was fourth after lap one, and third by lap three, but like in the heat race he slid up the track and fell back to sixth. Another late restart again gave him another shot at improving his position. He passed Tom Corcoran, held off Dustin Strand, and took advantage of a flat tire by Joey Pederson to score a fourth place finish. He is yet to finish outside the top five after finishing 14th on opening night at River Cities on May 1st.

Bill has three top fives and three top tens in four nights of racing early this season. This week starts Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, and continues Friday night at the River Cities Speedway before ending the weekend at the Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, ND with the Northern Late Model Racing Association.
