New seasons mean new beginnings, but maybe no more so than this year for Bill Mooney, driver of the No. 2 Lucas Oil MasterSbilt by JMR, as the season kicked off last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.

Bill entered the pit area with his newly refurbished MasterSbilt by JMR, and an unprecedented good draw number. He drew the number 1 pill, guaranteeing him the pole position for the first heat race of the season.

Bill finished the heat in the second spot, but another good draw gave Bill the pole again for the main event.

Bill settled into third early before moving up to the top of the high-banked quarter-mile bullring, as a battle with Mike Balcaen ensued in the following laps.

Bill fended off each advance by Balcaen as the leaders approached lapped traffic near the halfway point of the event.
This is where Bill had a spot on the podium disappear, as negotiations through the traffic cost him three spots.

Bill settled into the sixth spot for the remainder of the green-white-checkered affair, which took just over four minutes to complete the twenty lap race.

Bill was positive after the event, however, as he and Crew Chief Jamie Beatty learned a lot about the new configuration of the 2 car.

Stat Attack:

Bill has one top ten in his only night of competition thus far this season.

What’s Ahead:

Bill will return to River Cities on Friday night for the second week of competition at the speedway.
