Two More Top Fives For Bill Mooney Racing

Bill Mooney and the Bill Mooney Racing team looks to be hitting their stride after scoring two more top five finishes last week. On Thursday night, July 11th, the World of Outlaws late model series made their second visit to the Red River Co-Op Speedway near Winnipeg. Bill was 19th quick in qualifying in his No. 2 Millar powered Rocket, earning him a spot in the nights’ toughest heat race. Bill’s heat, the third heat of the night, had six Outlaw regulars while the previous two heats had only four travelers. He started and finished seventh, so Bill would have to go through the B main event to qualify for the feature. Bill finished fourth in the B, giving him the 22nd starting spot in the 50 lap feature, Bill finished 18th, completing 48 laps. The next night Bill would travel to Grand Forks once again to race against the Outlaws, but for the fourth time this season, the races would fall to rain.

Last Thursday night the NLRA schedule continued at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. Bill started seventh in the heat race and passed three cars, missing the invert by one spot, earning him the tenth starting position in the main event. Bill had gained four spots in the races’ first 27 laps until a late caution on lap 28 of the 30 lapper gave him one last opportunity to gain a few more spots. On the restart Bill surged from sixth to third, as he was the only driver in the top six to use the high side in turns one and two. Zach Johnson would steal the third spot back, and Bill would race to the checkered in the fourth position behind Brad Seng, Dustin Strand, and Johnson.

Last Friday the rain held off long enough to get a complete night of racing in at the River Cities Speedway. Bill finished as the runner up in his heat race, giving him the sixth starting spot in the main event after the redraw. Bill slipped back to seventh twice early in the main event, but fought back into the top five on lap twelve, and to the fourth spot with two laps remaining. Then third place running Mike Balcaen broke on the back straight-away giving Bill his fourth podium finish of the season.

Bill’s season stats now look like this. He has passed 51 cars in 15 races, and he now has six top fives, and twelve top tens. He also sits in the fifth spot in the points standings at the Red River Co-Op and River Cities Speedways, and the NLRA season long standings. Another regular week of racing is on tap for the Bill Mooney Racing team, with a pair of events, starting Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, and ending Friday night at the River Cities Speedway.
