Two Top Tens In One Night For Bill Mooney Racing

After another rain out Thursday at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, Bill Mooney driver of the No. 2 Millar Powered Rocket traveled south to the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks for two main events last Friday, scoring two more top tens.

The first feature was a make-up race from a June 14th rain out. The race was restarted from scratch, meaning Bill start from the fifth starting spot. The race was ran after the street stock heat races, so the track was a little more tacky than the drivers are used to. Bill would slip back to the eighth spot early in the race, and would remain there until lap 15 when he would pass Joey Pederson and Steve Anderson to move to the sixth position. Anderson would regain the spot on the next lap, before Bill took it back for good with two to go, ending the first feature in the fifth spot, his seventh top five of 2013.

Bill would finish third in his heat race for the regularly scheduled event, a race he would spend most of the latter half of gaining ground on five time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion Donny Schatz. Starting sixth in the main event, Bill jumped up to the fourth spot after the first lap, Bill would experience some deja vu slipping back to the ninth spot in the running order by lap five, and would once again fight back, taking eighth from Cole Schill on lap six. Bill would spend the next half dozen laps in again battling Steve Anderson, this time for the seventh spot. He would take seventh on lap 13, and set his sights on Troy Schill for sixth, a position he would take on lap 18, and the spot where he would finish the event, scoring his 14th top ten of the season.

Bill now has seven top fives, and 14 top tens this year. He remains in the fifth spot in the points standings with the NLRA and at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, while he improved to the fourth position in the River Cities Speedway standings. Thursday night the Bill Mooney Racing team hopes to race a regular points night for the first time in a month at the Red River Co-Op Speedway, then pack up and make another jaunt south for racing Friday night at the River Cities Speedway.
